Merit Hoodie Criteria:
Required:
- Meeting attendance: 3
of 6 meetings per prior six month period
- Involved in North Star Youth Court at least six months
- Have volunteered for cases and taken at least one as defense
and one as prosecution, or served as judge in 2 cases --Or have volunteered to mediate at
least two cases in the six months prior
- Have performed at least 3 hours volunteer community service as a member of North Star Youth Court, (MCA class counts, providing conflict resolution training) in prior 3 months or developed a training for NSYC (judge's training, for example)
Plus 6 of 9 of these:
- Have taken an active leadership role either on board of
directors, executive council, Chief Judge or Chief Clerk –active means attend meetings, participate in discussion
- Have mentored new attorneys based on nomination by at least
one new attorney who cites specific helpfulness
- Maintain a 3.5 GPA
- Attend at least one CLE or CME in prior six- month period
- Have consulted with legal advisor on cases, spotted
issues and researched law
- Sell one raffle ticket or speak about youth court at your
school or other public event
- Write a letter to the editor of the News-Miner about the
value of youth court to you and your community or write a review on Guidestar
- Present at least one student accepted idea at a monthly
meeting for ways to increase the visibility and credibility of youth court, or help plan a fun night that at least 5 people attend and enjoy.
- Write an article for the newsletter and submit it for publication.
